Wladimir Köppen: our inspiration
The story of our ground-breaking technology begins with the work of one man – Wladimir Köppen a Russian-born climatologist and geographer. Wladimir’s biggest contribution – the Köppen climate classification system – is still widely used today, and is the inspiration for the technology that lets Köppen help you perform at your peak.
Wladimir Köppen began his studies in St. Petersburg in 1864. He spent most of his professional career in Germany and Austria, studying climate and the natural environment. In 1900, he developed the Köppen climate classification system, plotting the world’s climatic zones.
Today, we look at Köppen’s influential work to further our understanding of climate.

It was a brisk, cold day in Roanoke, Virginia for hundreds of adventure seekers, all willing to walk, run, climb, crawl, and trek their way towards a chance at $40,000+ worth of prizes. Gear Junkie's second annual "Treasure Hunt: Roanoke" event took place October 23, 2011 and invited outdoor enthusiasts from the surrounding area to join them on a choose-your-own-adventure course where racers went on the hunt for points to cash in for gear. Köppen was a featured sponsor of the event and can proudly boast that their Kopres Systems jacket was the chosen prize for hunt's fourth place finisher!
